    Ipe (Tabebuia Serritofolia)

    5/4" material can span 24"o.c.

     Premium All Heart Grade.

Ipe will weather to a soft, silver patina if left in its natural state. Should you wish to retain the walnut color, apply an oil-based UV inhibitor product. We recommend Messmer’s U.V. Plus for Hardwood Decks. Messmer’s will need to be re-applied annually.

Pre-drill pilot holes close to the actual standard screw diameter to prevent splitting. Trim-head screws require a pilot hole slightly larger than the diameter of the screw head to permit countersinking. Stainless steel fasteners are recommended. We suggest the Swaneze (Simpson #7x2 ¼” #316 Stainless Steel) trim head screw.

Anchorseal wax sealer should be applied to all end grain surfaces as soon as possible after cutting or trimming to prevent end splitting.

If a hidden deck fastener is desired, we recommend the EB-TY Brand Hidden Deck Fastener.

Ipe should be installed a minimum of 24” off the ground and have open cross ventilation on three sides. 1/8” gap between deck boards is recommended to allow air circulation.

Deck boards may shrink as the wood becomes fully seasoned.  The average rate of shrinkage is approximately 1/16" on 4" wide boards, and 1/8" on 6" wide boards.  In hot dry conditions, the shrinkage may exceed this amount.
